Life has a way of throwing everything at us all at once. Recently, I experienced a whirlwind of events that tested my faith, resilience, and ability to find joy amid uncertainty. Losing a job after 7 1/2 years, publishing my first book, battling illness for three weeks, managing the challenges of perimenopause, and welcoming my third grandson into the world all happened within a short span of time. It felt overwhelming, like riding an emotional roller coaster with no clear end in sight.

Yet, through this storm, I discovered how important it is to lean into my Christian journey, embrace change, and seek encouragement in unexpected places. I want to share my story with you, hoping it offers comfort and practical insight for anyone facing their own storms of life.

The Storms of Life Hit Hard

Losing a long-term job is never easy. After dedicating years to a role, the sudden change can shake your sense of identity and security. I remember the day I got the news. It felt like the ground beneath me shifted. On top of that, my health took a hit, and I was sidelined by illness for weeks. Add to that the hormonal ups and downs of perimenopause, and it was a recipe for emotional exhaustion.

During this time, I often felt lost and unsure of what the next step should be. The temptation to give up was strong. But I held on to one constant: my daily time with the Bible. Reading God’s Word every morning became my anchor. It reminded me that even when life feels chaotic, I am not alone. His mercies are new every day, and His faithfulness never fails.

Embracing Change Through Small Steps

One surprising blessing came just as I was wrapping up my job. A woman named Pam called me about a flea market booth I had signed up for years ago but never used. On a particularly low day, her call felt like a lifeline. I said yes almost immediately, after checking with my husband.

Running a flea market booth is a lot like hosting a garage sale. It takes effort, patience, and a willingness to sort through old things. But it has been so much fun. It feels like playtime, a chance to enjoy something without pressure or expectations. This small change helped me embrace the new season of life I was entering.

Finding Joy in Unexpected Places

The flea market booth has done more than just help me declutter. It has given me a sense of purpose and joy during a time when I needed it most. Going through boxes I hadn’t opened since moving to New York in 2017 brought back memories and reminded me of how far I’ve come.

This experience taught me that finding joy doesn’t always come from big achievements or milestones. Sometimes, it’s in the small moments—sorting through old treasures, chatting with customers, or simply enjoying the sunshine on a weekend morning.

Encouragement for Your Christian Journey

If you are navigating your own storms of life, I want to encourage you to keep seeking God’s guidance. His Word offers direction and peace, but we have to choose to receive it. I’ve made mistakes by ignoring that guidance, and it only led to more grief. But the Lord’s faithfulness is constant, and His mercies are new every morning.

Here are a few practical steps that helped me embrace change and find joy:

  • Stay consistent with your spiritual practices. Even when it feels hard, keep reading your Bible and praying.

  • Look for small opportunities to try something new. It could be a hobby, a side project, or volunteering.

  • Allow yourself to feel your emotions. Don’t rush the healing process or pretend everything is okay.

  • Celebrate small victories. Whether it’s finishing a book or setting up a flea market booth, acknowledge your progress.

  • Connect with others who understand your journey. Sharing your story can bring encouragement and support.

Moving Forward with Hope

Life’s ups and downs are inevitable, but how we respond makes all the difference. My Christian journey has taught me that storms of life don’t last forever. By embracing change and intentionally finding joy, we can navigate difficult seasons with hope and strength.

If you’re facing a tough transition, remember you are not alone. Look for the tokens of God’s faithfulness in your daily life. They might come as a phone call, a new opportunity, or a quiet moment of peace. These signs remind us that even in the chaos, there is purpose and joy waiting to be discovered.

Keep pressing forward, and don’t be afraid to embrace the new beginnings God places before you.

My New Beginnings Might Look Like:

  • Revisiting my artsy side. I used to sell large art, wooden plaques, and nesting boxes at art galleries and craft shows.

  • Diving into posting more items on eBay and Poshmark. Read about my side hustles here.

  • Reigniting my drive to notate my 150+ original praise and worship songs. I was making headway with this in 2021 but a good friend who was helping me passed away from a long illness. This might be a good time to start this up again.

  • Recording my praise and worship songs. Oh my. This has been a dream of mine since I was a young mom in my twenties. Maybe it's time to start singing again??

  • Sharing my life on YouTube. I'm still drumming up gumption to do this! But I love to create videos so this is definetly in my wheelhouse!

  • Starting a sequel to my first book! Have you read it yet?? You MUST get the paperback. The ebook is nice, but the paperback is a MUCH better experience.

  • Redecorating my home. I haven't been able to do this in so long!

  • Spending more time with the grandsons. This is already happening and I love it! I have so much more time to dote on them and take them places.

What Does Your New Beginnings Look Like?

My poor book was released the same week I ended my job and has taken a back seat to all of my emotional turbulence, so I want to put it out there to all my readers.

Book Details:

  • This book is my personal testimony of good life choices

  • Details my teen years: the good and bad moments

  • Contains the "love story" of how I met my husband

  • Contains lots of personal pictures

  • Contains 10 Steps for Your Journey of Faith, Love, and New Beginnings

Blessings ~
